Spherical Plain Bearing

Using a Bearing Pillow Block
Every bearing is an important part of the machinery it is used in. It mainly supports the function of enabling rotation between two parts within the machine, to which it is linked. In this process, it tends to reduce the friction that could arise between the two or more parts which would be rotating with the support of the bearings. However, there would also be scenarios in which these bearings would require a framework to operate within.
Such a requirement arises mostly in those cases wherein huge pieces of equipment would be involved. A platform called a bearing pillow block, which would support the shaft rotating for the purpose of operating the machinery, would be used in such cases. The relevant bearings would be used on such an accessory in order to help in the process of the shaft rotation.
Such a platform acts like a pedestal which is placed on a surface which would be straight and parallel to the axis of the bore of the shaft. The most appropriate bearings are used in this procedure and so the pillow block is named accordingly depending on the type of bearings used for the purpose. This way, a great support is provided to the bearings to enable perform their function effectively.
Use of Angular Contact Ball Bearings and Spherical Plain Bearings
Those applications in which there would be a requirement of high speed like in the case of electric motors, pumps, gearboxes, etc, angular contact ball bearings can be used. A spherical plain bearing finds its usage in railway engineering, wind turbines, power generation, rolling mills, hydraulic steel structures, construction machinery, roof designs, gear drives, oil field exploration, bridge building, etc. It is usually known as a maintenance-free bearing and can be applied in many such scenarios as mentioned above.
