Cerium Oxide polishing powder: Polishing applications

Polishing is the process of rubbing a surface and removing an ultra-fine layer off the surface to produce a shine and then adding wax to protect the shine for a long time. The first process is carried on by a powdery substance called cerium oxide. It is primarily poplar as an abrasive that is used for polishing. The substance has a pale appearance and has a yellowish white colour to it. It is largely down to their inert nature that the compound has successfully replaced the likes of zirconia and iron oxide.
 

How to use cerium oxide:
 

• The cerium oxide is transformed into a paste with the addition of water. The paste that is obtained is then added to the affected areas on the surface of the glass.
   
• The desired consistency can be attained when the cerium oxide is sprinkled at regular intervals while mixing continuously.
   
• The consistency is of paramount importance. The mixture should be of the consistency of a paste. If the mix is too runny, the desired effects may not be achieved.
   
• Before the commencement of the polishing process, the surface to be polished should be thoroughly cleaned. It is important to make sure that there are no impurities left on the surface.
   
• Having completed the former steps, the paste should be poured on to the affected area and left to settle. After having settled the excess mixture is poured and collected into a tub.
   
• The affected area then needs to kneaded.
   

Precautions to use cerium oxide:
 

• It is advised not to knead the affected area when the paste turns dry.
   
• It is advised to carefully remove the paste. The paste should be wiped off carefully once it dries out.
