It is a must, especially during festivals and occasions in South India. The Medu vada is most commonly accompanied in the breakfast in South India, and it is not just a significant traditional food in the south but is also loved by all along with some sambar and chutney. Although just the medu vada is quite bland in taste so it will taste better along with a side like chutney and sambar.
Origin Of Term
The word medu is of Tamil and Kannada origin meaning soft. This aspect describes the word Medu vada as 'soft fritter'. You will generally find this word in general menus only as vada. The other dish names for this variant are uddina vada originating in Kannada, medhu vadai, urad vadai, ulundu vadai originating in Tamil, uzhunnu vana which originates from Malayalam and also garelu arising from Tamil. The vada is usually served at a warm temperature with sambar and coconut chutney. Yoghurt is preferred the most if it is served in room temperature. The main ingredients of meduvada recipe are Urad dal and Rice.
